Well, today I thought I would try something new. A new format!!! We'll see how that goes....
Today was a very clean eating day, though I truthfully didn't eat enough. Still not feeling great, and I'm sure that has something to do with it.
For breakfast I had the Moroccan Chickpea Stew that I canned a few weeks ago. It was good, but salty. That surprised me because I generally have a very light hand with salt, so I'm wondering if the canning process reduced the amount of liquid in the can, and therefore made it saltier. I'm going to have to do some research and experimentation on that.
Around lunchtime I made a tofu eggless salad. I used:
1 package of the hermetically sealed firm silken tofu. I used my egg slicer to cut it into slivers.
3 tbsp vegan mayo
3 tbsp sweet pickle relish
2 tbsp minced onion
2 tbsp minced celery
1 tsp yellow mustard
1/8 tsp salt
1/8 tsp turmeric
Then I toasted two slices of Ezekiel bread, plopped on the tofu salad, some extra mustard (because that's never a bad idea), and YUM!
Around 4 I had some green tea with agave sweetener. It helped my throat at the time, which was an added bonus.
Around 6pm I had half a banana.
That's it. Of course it's 10pm right now and I'm kinda hungry, but it's silly to eat anything now. I normally don't have issues with eating too little. I blame the flu crud I've been dealing with. No appetite! Guess I'll try another cough drop and see how that does for me.
Today was day 1 of the Y-Tri club at my local YMCA. I spent all day debating on if I should go. I didn't want to be "that" person who signed up but didn't show on the first day. I also didn't want to throw up on everyone else. Decisions, decisions.
I really did push it to the last possible minute, but at 705pm, I laced up my shoes and headed to the YMCA. Monday's are cycling days at 720, and for Jan and Feb, we train using the Spin bikes. I figured that if all else fails, I just put on an easy cadence and pedal. If I felt the need to hurl...I'd leave! Fortunately, the hour went well, and I overall felt pretty decent. My throat still hurt, but I didn't really notice much else. Until class ended of course, but that's a whole other story....
The club is put on by the owner of Fat Frogs bikes here in my town, and I was surprised by the number of people in class - 24 - and there are 6 more on a waiting list in case any of us drop out! I was even more glad I went - I'd have been upset to lose my spot because I didn't seem committed to it.
The instructor also said that we should all get a license from the USA Triathlon association. Apparently it covers a bunch of things, including insurance for the races. I couldn't hear him real well in the class - partially because I was in the back, but mostly because my head is super stuffy and I have an earache and probably can't hear so well. I plan on looking into this membership thing tomorrow if I have time.
The next club meeting is Wednesday, where we're running and doing time trials at the track to get us sorted into skill level. Kind of like Harry Potter when he showed up at Hogwarts...only instead of just a sorting hat telling me where to go, I have to run in front of a bunch of people and pray I'm not the slowest!
The coach also mentioned that the 3 club workouts a week are in no way enough to get us to a triathlon. That means I have to do research and build a plan. Expect to see another spreadsheet posted the way I did my marathon training program. That's a goal for this week!
As I mentioned, I still feel poopy. Yesterday was a bit better, but today wasn't. Whatever is wrong with me moved to other parts of my body, so now it's majorly in my sinuses and my throat and ears really hurt. I don't think it's a sinus infection since the goop isn't dark green (sorry for that visual), so I'm guessing it's just an ugly virus that needs to run it's course. I'm just annoyed because it's cramping my style.
I worked from home today. Had I gone into the office sick, I would have been assaulted by everyone, and likely be accused of every illness everyone gets in the next month. I did get a lot done, so that was good. I just felt badly about it since I've been off the last week and a half, and my first day back to work was working from home.
After the gym, I went to Blockbuster to return our New Year's Eve movies, and then to Walgreen's to beg the pharmacist to tell me how to end the misery. I left with some special sudafed (the kind you have to show and ID for since you can make crystal meth out of it if you buy enough) and some homeopathic ear drops. As soon as my workout was done, I had a terrible rushing in my ears, and the headache was back in full force. That pissed me off a bit, since I was pretty much convincing myself that I was all better since I lasted the hour in class. I guess we'll see how the next 12 hrs go!
I got home, D put the drops in my ear (a very disconcerting feeling), put the kids in bed, took a quick shower, and then called my mom to wish her a happy birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!! We chatted for a bit, and now it's time to call it a night.
So that's been my day! I slept in, worked in jammies, ate too little, but still managed to work out (still not sure the wisdom of that, but it's in the past now!).
I'm going to see how this new format goes over the next couple of weeks. Feel free to make comments and suggestions about it. I was thinking I sometimes get to rambling so much, that my posts aren't always coherent. If I stick to my main themes, maybe it'll be easier to read. It's just as possible that everyone would prefer the regular chronological narrative I have been doing. Let me know. I'm pretty flexible! I'll just keep tweaking as needed!
So happy 1st day back to work/school/life for everyone. I hope it was stress free!
